Newspaper Printer Roller Cleaning Causes Injury

Problem

Extended reach with downward pressure triggers frequent shoulder injuries and exacerbates back pain issues (strain/sprain).

Issue

Large rollers require continuous cleaning during and between production runs. Continuous downward pressure required to “scrub” rollers with special pads on topside and backsides.

Back strain cleaning roller top

Shoulder strain with wide area wiping action

Underside cleaning causes shoulder strain

Excessive forward lean for lower rollers

Solution

Designed and developed specially configured cleaning tool for holding pads and providing downwards and upwards cleaning/scrubbing pressure without injury/pain trigger.

Result

At-risk conditions eliminated and roller cleaning efficiency improved.

Downward force enabled without at-risk posture

High rollers easily reached

Wide area scrubbing
